Description

Making homemade pizza used to feel like a weekend project, but this easy pizza crust recipe, infused with roasted garlic and rosemary, fills your kitchen with an incredible aroma even before it bakes, making weeknight dinners feel special and family-friendly. It is perfect for busy parents who want healthy eating options without compromising on flavor or requiring hours of effort.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 0.25 cup + 1 tbsp olive oil, for dough and brushing
  • 1 whole head garlic, for roasting
  • 2 sprigs fresh rosemary, for infusion and garnish
  • 1.5 cups warm water, 40-43 degrees C (105110 degrees F)
  • 2.25 tsp instant dry yeast
  • 1 tsp granulated sugar
  • 3.5 cups all-purpose flour, plus dusting
  • 1.5 tsp fine sea salt
  • 0.25 tsp flaky sea salt, for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Activate Yeast: In a large bowl, combine 1.5 cups warm water (105-110 degrees F or 40-43 degrees C), 2.25 tsp instant dry yeast, and 1 tsp granulated sugar. Stir and let sit for 5-10 minutes until foamy.
  2. Prepare Infused Oil: Roast 1 whole head garlic for 35-45 minutes at 400 degrees F (200 degrees C). Remove from oven and infuse 0.25 cup olive oil with roasted garlic and 2 sprigs fresh rosemary for 10 minutes.
  3. Combine Dry Ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk 3.5 cups all-purpose flour and 1.5 tsp fine sea salt.
  4. Mix Dough: Pour the activated yeast mixture into the dry ingredients. Add 2 tbsp of the prepared infused olive oil. Mix until a shaggy dough forms.
  5. Knead Dough: Turn the dough onto a lightly floured surface. Knead for 7-10 minutes until smooth and elastic. Form the dough into a ball.
  6. First Rise: Lightly grease a clean bowl with some infused olive oil. Place the dough ball in the bowl, turning to coat it. Cover the bowl and let the dough rise in a warm place for 1-1.5 hours, or until it has doubled in size.
  7. Shape Crust: Punch down the risen dough and transfer it to a lightly floured surface. Shape or roll the dough into a 12-inch (30 cm) circle. Place it on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Brush the crust with the remaining 1 tbsp of infused olive oil, focusing on the edges.
  8. Bake Crust: Preheat your oven to 425 degrees F (220 degrees C), preheating a pizza stone for 30 minutes if using one. Let the shaped dough rest for 10 minutes. Bake the crust for 10-15 minutes until it is golden brown and cooked through.

Notes

Correct water temperature is crucial for yeast activation; ensure yeast is fresh for optimal rise. Use good quality extra virgin olive oil for best flavor infusion. If dough is too dry, add water 1 tsp at a time; if too sticky, add flour 1 tbsp at a time. Consider whole wheat flour for fiber or a 1:1 gluten-free blend for dietary needs. This recipe is naturally vegan.
