Ingredients
- 500g (1lb 1oz) Ground Beef: Lean beef recommended for less greasiness.
- 100g (3ยฝoz) Plain Breadcrumbs: Acts as a binder for tenderness.
- 1 Large Egg, Lightly Beaten: Adds moisture and binds ingredients.
- 80g (2oz) Onion, Diced: Provides savory flavor.
- 100g (3ยฝoz) Green Bell Pepper, Diced: Adds sweetness and vegetal notes.
- 2 Cloves Garlic, Minced: Adds depth and aroma.
- 2 tbsp (30ml) Soy Sauce: Introduces umami and salty depth.
- 1 tbsp (15ml) Dijon Mustard: Adds tang and tenderizes.
- ยฝ tsp (2g) Dried Oregano: Contributes Italian herb flavor.
- ยฝ tsp (2g) Dried Thyme: Adds earthy aroma.
- Salt and Pepper to Taste: Season to preference.
- 150g (5oz) Provolone Cheese Slices: Creates a gooey cheese center.
- 300g (10oz) Onions, Thinly Sliced: Base for caramelized onion glaze.
- 2 tbsp (30g) Unsalted Butter: Used to caramelize onions.
- 1 tbsp (15g) Brown Sugar: Helps onions caramelize and adds sweetness.
- 1 tbsp (15ml) Apple Cider Vinegar: Balances sweetness and adds tang.
- 1 tbsp (15ml) Olive Oil: For greasing the pan.
- Fresh Parsley, Chopped: For garnish.
Instructions
- Preheat & Prep: Preheat oven to 180ยฐC (350ยฐF) and oil a loaf pan.
- Caramelize Onions: Melt butter and cook onions until golden brown (about 10 minutes).
- Create Glaze: Add brown sugar and vinegar to onions; simmer until syrupy. Reserve half for baking, half for drizzling.
- Combine Ingredients: Gently mix beef, breadcrumbs, egg, onion, pepper, garlic, soy sauce, mustard, oregano, thyme, salt, and pepper.
- Layer Meatloaf: Spread half the mixture in the pan, top with provolone, then the remaining mixture.
- Glaze & Bake: Brush with glaze and bake for 45-55 minutes, until internal temp reaches 71ยฐC (160ยฐF).
- Final Glaze & Rest: Brush with remaining glaze during last 10 minutes; rest for 10 minutes before slicing.
