Instructions
- Combine Ingredients: In a 1.5-quart saucepan, add the 1 cup dark brown sugar, 1 cup water, and a pinch of salt. Scrape the vanilla bean pod, adding speckles and the pod to the pan.
- Dissolve and Heat: Place the saucepan over medium heat. Whisk continuously until the brown sugar fully dissolves and the mixture turns clear.
- Gentle Simmer: Bring the dissolved mixture to a gentle simmer. Reduce heat to medium-low, simmering undisturbed for 5-7 minutes, until the syrup thickens and darkens.
- Cool and Store: Remove from heat, carefully remove the vanilla bean pod, and allow the syrup to cool completely to room temperature. Once cool, pour into an airtight jar.

Store in an airtight glass jar for extended storage. For a spicier syrup, add a cinnamon stick during simmering. Simmer longer for thicker syrup or less for thinner.
